What we remanufacture
- Battery modules: tested for capacity and internal resistance; only healthy, matched modules go back in.
- Battery management system (BMS): tested and confirmed to work correctly.
- Cooling system: pressure-tested for leaks.
- High-voltage connectors: inspected; worn or damaged ones are replaced.
- Contactors, fuses and seals: checked and replaced with genuine OEM parts where needed.
- Casing: cleaned, inspected and resealed so the pack stays watertight.

- The remanufactured, tested battery pack, delivered to your partner workshop
- A condition report with the measured state of health
- A Swapbat traceability ID for the pack (how traceability works)
- Collection and recycling of the old battery
Who can install it
High-voltage batteries may only be removed and fitted by technicians qualified for work on high-voltage systems. The swap is done by a Swapbat partner workshop, which also handles the old battery.

Questions we hear from BMW owners
My BMW's electric range has dropped a lot. Is the battery worn out?
Most likely. As a high-voltage battery ages, its usable capacity falls: it charges to a lower level, empties faster and the petrol engine starts more often. A partner workshop can read the battery's state of health. If it is worn, a remanufactured pack brings the electric range back.
The car shows a hybrid warning or a battery fault code. What does it mean?
Common signs of a failing pack on these BMW models are driver messages such as "Hybrid system fault" or "High-voltage battery" and fault codes such as 21F234 or 0316D1. They often point to one or more weak modules. Have the car diagnosed at a workshop; if the battery is the cause, this pack is a direct replacement.
Why replace the whole pack instead of one module?
A new module next to aged ones creates an imbalance in capacity, and the battery soon fails again. We rebuild the pack with modules matched on their test results, so they age evenly. That is why we do not recommend single-module replacement.
Who fits the battery?
The battery is fitted by a Swapbat partner workshop with high-voltage qualified technicians, who also take care of the old battery. Find a partner workshop. Prices are listed on the BMW batteries page.
What does the warranty cover?
Every pack has a 12 month / 30,000 km warranty, whichever comes first. The full conditions are in the warranty terms (PDF).
